Ending a lease or tenancy in South Dakota
South Dakota guide to fixed-term expiration and term-based notice for month-to-month and week-to-week tenancies.
Start the South Dakota decision toolA fixed-term lease terminates at the agreed term unless the contract adds another renewal/nonrenewal requirement.
An unspecified weekly hiring generally follows a weekly period.
An unspecified monthly hiring generally follows a monthly period.
Termination notice for an unspecified term must be given at least as long before expiration as the hiring term itself, capped at one month.
Why this matters
South Dakota's default periodic-tenancy rule is term-based, not a universal fixed-day shortcut. The workflow therefore asks for the actual rental-period expiration date and checks whether the planned delivery is early enough.
